I too was awestruck by that collection. Unbelievable that one man collected all of that over one lifetime. On the other hand, a lifetime is a long time, but I am in awe just the same!

He was a watchmaker to very wealthy people - like the Rockerfellers. He was highly skilled, and his work was sought after - he had plenty of money.

Only trouble with that auction is because of the widespread attention a lot of stuff went for way more than it was really worth. But that's good for the person selling. Hopefully at those prices it means it mostly went to enthusiasts.
