Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought there was supposed to be some sort of means that members could use to set download permissions to their uploads.
I was looking for those when I was uploading stuff, but either they weren't there or I didn't see them.
If these download permission controls are there, maybe someone can post instructions on how to find and use them.
The only permissions that can be set for downloads are set by the admins. There are no permissions that can be set by members or by moderators. Global Moderators here have permission to approve files that have been uploaded to the downloads area, but do not have the authority to modify any permissions on those files.
If you want to set permissions on certain files so that they are visible only to the staff members, I will at the very least need to create a separate area for those files, but it may take more than that. I will need to investigate further.
Can you please elaborate on what you are looking for?
I was thinking of the option to restrict downloads to members only vs anyone, even guests. That may be the case already, not sure.
Potentially later on, if members form groups within this site (saying that groups is an option that can be added), maybe they only want to share a particular upload with members of that group and not the general membership or guests.
If it's not possible or too big a hassle, no problem.
Downloads are visible only to registered members. Guests and spiders or bots cannot even see them. I wish I could make them visible to them but not allow downloading, but the permissions are not that in-depth.
As for groups, I don't believe I will ever go down that road here. It was nothing but a problem when it was tried at H-M. Groups are always done by add-ons and the fewer add-ons we have the better, especially when it is time to upgrade the forum software.
