Adding photos to a post can be done in a couple of different ways and I will cover them both here. Photos can be stored here, on the forum, or they can be stored elsewhere, such as a photo hosting service or on a different website altogether. Where the photo is stored or will be stored tends to make all the difference in how it gets attached to a post.
ATTACHING PHOTOS DIRECTLY TO A POST- Create your thread. Be sure to give it a subject line or title and select a message icon if you so choose.
- Enter all of the text you want in your post. Add formatting and such, but do not yet attach any photos or files.
- After your thread is created, do yourself a favor and SAVE THE POST. This way the post is created, and text will not get lost if an error occurs when attempting to attach photos.
- Go back to your published post and in the lower right corner you will see "Quick Edit" and "More". Hover the mouse over "More" then select "Modify". Keep in mind that you can only edit your post for a period of 3 hours once it is created. After that time you need to contact a moderator to assist you with making modifications to your post.
- Add a reason for editing your post in the box provided, such as "Add photos".
- Click on the large button that says "Click or drag files here to attach them."
- A file manager window opens. Here you can navigate to the photo(s) you want to attach. Click on one photo, then click on "Open". That file is then uploaded to the forum server. A bar graph shows how much of the available room your photo will use.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each photo you wish to attach.
- Once you have attached your photos, click on the "Save" button in the lower right corner.
- Go back and review your post to be sure that your changes have taken place the way you wanted them.
There are some points to consider when attaching photos:
- Each photo of file may only be a maximum of 6144 KB in size.
- The total of your photos or other attachments may not exceed 6144 KB on one post.
- The maximum number of attachments per post is 6. This limit can be reached only if the attachments are small enough.
- If you have more than 6 photos to attach, or if they are too large, you will need to create more than one post.
- The following photo or graphic file types may be attached: jpg, gif, png.
- Keep in mind that each and every photo or file takes up space on the server. Please attach pertinent photos but omit duplicates or photos that do not really add anything to the worthiness of the post.
- If your attachments are too large, the process will FAIL and any changes made will be lost. This is why we SAVE THE POST then come back to edit it before we add the photos or make other changes.
- Attached photos will appear at the bottom of the post and are not embedded within the post itself. Thus you cannot add text, then add a photo, then more text below it.
ADDING EMBEDDED PHOTOSEmbedded photos are always done as links to photos stored elsewhere such as a photo hosting service or another website. Embedded photo links do not take up any room on our server beyond the space taken by the text of the link itself. This is both good and bad. Good because we save space. Bad because if the photo is not maintained or disappears from its host site, it disappears from our thread as well.
- Create your post. Start a new paragraph at any point that you wish to add a photo link.
- Make sure that you add a subject if this is a new thread.
- Once the post is created, go back to the published post, and hover the mouse over "More" and then click on "Modify" in the drop-down list. Keep in mind that you can only edit a post for three hours after it is created.
- Your post will now open in edit mode.
- Click on the place where you wish to add a photo.
- Click on the "Insert an image" button - near the left, just above the smileys.
- Type in or paste the URL to the photo you want to add. Type in size limits if you wish.
- Click on the "Insert" button. The image will now appear in your selected location within your post.
- Click "Save" in the lower right corner to save your changes to the post.
- Review your post to make sure the changes took place the way you wanted.
