This is a continuation of my rebuilding of my Sheldon lathe. I decided after the rebuild I would tear it down and redo the bed grinding I did on it almost two years ago.
I built a new "sled" for doing the grinding with along with a new high speed spindle purchase to do the grinding with.
It turned out so much better, straighten out the "hills" created with the previous grind job that I should have done it this way to begin with. I won't know for a while how good it will turn since I have to rescrape the saddle to the bed again. I have attached a few pictures of the setup and results.
You are using the two factory surfaces that the tail stock rides on, correct? That's one hella grinding fixture! GREAT!
Yes, that is what I used. I determined they had less than a thousandth of wear. I won't go into details on how I checked it, just take my word for it. I have to walk away from it until sometime next month. We have a couple more projects going on here at home that is taking president over the bed grinding project my son and I have to work on next.
