Title: Angel's Breath
Post by: TerryWerm on May 25, 2024, 07:05 PM
Have any of you ever heard of Angel's Breath? From what I read it was used as a cutting or tapping lubricant on hard to machine materials. It is made as follows: One part turpentine, Two parts White Spirit, Three parts olive oil. The three are mixed together and applied to the work as necessary.

Any thoughts?

Allow me to derail this thread on the first response.

Cimtap is hands down the best lube I've found. It has a noticable effect in hardened stainless, high grade alloys, and materials up to 55hrc (hardest I've tried). Cimcool makes it along with my aerospace approved coolant (which destroys plastics, paints, and rubbers...)

I put tap magic, anchorlube and cimtap side by side and cimtap actually lowered the torque required to turn the tap handle.

Mineral Spirits.   Called White Spirit in England and Australia.

I though "Angel Breath" was a green plant used in flower arrangements. :headbang:

That's "Baby's Breath" Ken.

You were close, though.

ON EDIT:  I found out that both names are used for what appears to be the same flower. Hmph.  Who knew?

As for the coolant, I might just have to try making some if the need arises. No gnarly projects coming up, so probably won't see the need.

Yeah, I did get the two mixed up. Older age and Delisa kicking in.  Can't even spell anymore either.  Spell didn't help neither.

Shawn, has white lead been banded in your country as well? No longer can buy it in US stores. But I do find a few cans now and then picking. Dave

I'm not sure, to be honest. What's it for?

White Lead was a lead based lubricant Shawn. I still have some here.

It was also a pigment in paint. They claim it was one of the best white pigments ever due to it's opacity and other factors. Probably just as well that they don't use it anymore!
